Bathroom remodeling in Lebanon, IN
Lebanon is the Boone County seat, and its housing tells the story of a county town that kept growing: century-old homes a few blocks from the courthouse, plenty of ranches and split-levels from the 1960s through the ’90s, and new subdivisions going up as the LEAP district takes shape. If you’re looking for bathroom remodeling in Lebanon, IN, the right plan depends a lot on which of those you live in.

Around the courthouse square
The Neoclassical Boone County Courthouse anchors downtown, and the streets around it hold Queen Anne, American Foursquare and Craftsman houses from roughly 1890 to 1925. Downtown and about two blocks in every direction form the city’s local historic district. The good news for a bathroom project: Lebanon’s Historic Preservation Commission reviews exterior changes, so new tile, a new tub or a reworked shower inside the house isn’t what it’s looking at.
Where it can matter is anything you’d see from the street. Swapping or resizing a bathroom window, adding a vent cap on a front-facing wall or changing exterior trim may need a Certificate of Appropriateness before work starts. We flag those items at the estimate so they don’t surprise anyone halfway through.
The one-bath ranch problem
A big share of Lebanon’s homes went up in the decades after World War II, and plenty of ranches from that stretch were built with a single full bathroom. Remodeling the only tub in the house is a different job than redoing a spare bath. You can’t just shut the door for a few weeks and shower somewhere else.
So we plan the order of work around it: we tell you up front which days the room will be out of service, and we push the noisy, messy part into as short a window as we honestly can. For a lot of these houses, the right project is a tub-to-shower conversion with a low threshold and a grab bar or two, or a walk-in tub for someone who still wants to soak.
Newer homes on the edges of town
The LEAP Research and Innovation District north and west of the city has brought big employers and a wave of housing proposals. If your house is one of the newer ones, the bathroom is probably sound and simply plain. That’s a short, tidy project: a tiled shower in place of the fiberglass insert, a vanity with drawers, better light at the mirror.
What we’re usually asked to do here
- Turning a dated hall bath in a ranch into a shower that’s easy to step into, using aging-in-place details that don’t look medical
- Fitting a modern bath into an older house with odd framing and a second-floor drain to reroute
- Patching and matching old trim and doors after the plumbing work; see carpentry and repairs
- Swapping builder-basic finishes in a newer house for ones you picked yourself
Permits in Lebanon
Inside city limits, building permits and inspections run through the City of Lebanon Planning & Zoning Department, which also staffs the Historic Preservation Commission. Addresses outside the city usually fall under the Boone County Area Plan Commission instead. A simple fixture swap may not need anything, while moving drains or adding circuits usually does. We check which office covers your address before we quote.

Lebanon questions
My house is in the downtown historic district. Do I need commission approval for a bathroom remodel?
Usually not for the inside. The commission reviews exterior changes. If your plan touches a window, siding or anything visible from the street, ask the city’s planning office first. We’ll point out those items when we visit.
We only have one bathroom. How long will we be without it?
It depends on the scope, and we’ll give you a day-by-day plan in writing before we start. A shower-only update is much shorter than a full gut, which is one reason many one-bath owners choose it.
Is Lebanon too far out for you?
No. State Road 32 runs straight from Westfield to Lebanon, so it’s an easy drive for us. Book a free visit and we’ll come measure.
One bathroom? Old house? Both?
We'll come to Lebanon, measure, and hand you a written price.
