Bathroom remodeling in north Indianapolis
From Butler-Tarkington and Meridian-Kessler up through Broad Ripple, Nora and the neighborhoods near Keystone, north Indy has some of the most character-rich houses in the metro. Their bathrooms are usually small, often original, and full of surprises we’re happy to deal with.
Early-1900s homes
Bungalows, foursquares and colonials closer to the city often have a single full bath upstairs, sometimes with original hex tile, a cast-iron tub and plaster walls. Behind those walls we commonly expect older galvanized supply lines, cast-iron drains and wiring that predates modern bathrooms. Remodeling here is as much about updating the infrastructure as the finishes.
Many owners want to keep the vintage feel. We can, with hex or penny-round floors, subway tile, a pedestal or console sink and a refinished tub, all over modern waterproofing.
Mid-century ranches
Farther north, around Nora and the areas near 86th Street and beyond, ranches from the 1950s and 1960s are common. Their bathrooms tend to be narrow, with colored tile (pink, mint, or that particular shade of blue), small windows over the tub and limited storage. Smart layouts make a big difference; see small bathroom ideas.
What we expect to do most here
- Full remodels of a home’s only full bathroom, scheduled to keep the house livable
- Adding a half bath or upgrading a basement bath for a growing household
- Tub-to-shower conversions in ranches where owners plan to age in place
- Plaster and trim repairs to match original work

North Indy questions
It’s our only full bathroom. How do we live through a remodel?
We plan the schedule so the toilet is out for as little time as possible, and we’ll talk about options for showering during the build. A clear schedule up front makes it manageable.
Can you save our original tile?
Sometimes. Floor tile in good shape can be cleaned and regrouted. Wall tile around a tub is harder to save if the wall behind it needs work. We’ll give you an honest read.
Old north-side house, new bathroom?
Free in-home estimate. We'll check the pipes before we talk tile.
