Flooring

Flooring installation, from one bathroom to the whole main floor

A floor is only as good as what’s under it. We pull the old stuff, fix squeaks and soft spots, flatten the subfloor, then install luxury vinyl, laminate, tile or engineered wood with transitions that don’t catch your toes.

How we install

  1. Move what needs moving (or tell you exactly what to move first).
  2. Remove old flooring and haul it off.
  3. Fix squeaks, replace soft subfloor, flatten high and low spots.
  4. Let materials acclimate when the manufacturer calls for it.
  5. Install with proper expansion gaps, underlayment and moisture protection.
  6. Reinstall or replace baseboard and shoe molding, set transitions, clean up.

Pairs well with

Bathroom floors usually make sense as part of a bathroom remodel because the toilet and vanity come out anyway. Kitchen floors go best before new cabinets, or carefully around existing ones as part of a kitchen remodel. For trim and doors that need trimming after the new floor goes in, see carpentry & repairs.

Rough costs for common jobs

National averages from HomeGuide put a typical 200 sq ft room at about $800 to $3,000 installed and 500 sq ft at about $2,000 to $7,500, depending on material. The project builder uses those ranges.

Flooring FAQ

Can you install over my existing floor?

Sometimes. Floating floors can go over some flat, sound existing floors. But stacking layers raises the floor height at doors and appliances, so we often recommend removal. We check at the visit.

Do I need to move my furniture?

We’ll tell you exactly what to move, or quote moving it for you. Electronics, breakables and anything with sentimental value should be moved by you.
